"article_html": "<section class=\"main\"><p>The annual inflation rate in Germany rose to 6.4% in June, following a steady decline to 6.1% in May, the Federal Statistical Office said on Thursday.</p><p>Consumer price increases in Europe's largest economy were on an upward trajectory again for the first time since February, Destatis said, on the basis of provisional figures.</p><p>In June, consumers' budgets were again burdened by significantly higher food prices, which rose by 13.7%.</p><p>Energy prices, on the other hand, rose at a below-average rate of 3.0%, according to the figures. In the previous year, energy prices had skyrocketed as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.</p><p>Since February, German inflation, though still at a high level, had weakened continuously for three months in a row. </p><p>In February, the inflation rate still stood at 8.7%, as it did at the beginning of the year.</p><p>Compared to the previous month of May, consumer prices rose by 0.3% in June.</p><p>The high inflation rate has been burdening consumers for months, eating away at their purchasing power. In surveys, many people say that they can barely make ends meet.</p><p>Private consumption is an important pillar of the German economy. According to GfK, a market research company, the fear of a further increase in inflation and of a recession - such as a shrinking of economic output - caused consumer sentiment in Germany to fall again recently. </p><p>Economists had expected inflation to rise in June. A year ago, the €9 ticket deal, which was limited to three months, and the petrol discount temporarily dampened price increases.</p><p>The €9 ticket allowed people to use any form of bus and train throughout Germany for €9 ($9.79) a month. Usually, monthly tickets are far more expensive and only valid in limited zones.</p><p>The dampening on price effect disappeared this year. The new version of the deal - the so-called Deutschlandticket - launched in May 2023, is significantly more expensive at €49. </p><p>In the coming months, experts expect a continued, gradual easing of prices despite the recent increase.</p><p>The German government is trying to ease the situation by curbing prices, which are retroactive to January 1, that intended to make natural gas, electricity and district heating more affordable. </p><p>The European Central Bank (ECB) is fighting high inflation in the euro area with a series of interest rate hikes. Higher interest rates make loans more expensive. This can slow down demand and counteract high inflation rates. </p><p>In the medium term, the ECB is aiming for price stability in the euro area at an inflation rate of 2%. <br/><br/></p></section>",
